Google has launched a beta site for a new map service, offering a range of maps, driving directions and the ability to search for local businesses.

Hotelmarketing.com says that the ongoing search battles between Google and companies like Yahoo and Microsoft have led to new features and enhancements coming out almost weekly. Apparently localization and mapping products have been a particular focus as they are popular with advertisers.

Hotelmarketing.com explains that with Google Maps, a search for hotels in a specified area will present the user with an interactive map listing hotels and their locations. A click on a hotel will give you the hotel address and phone number, driving directions and the site name and link of the top Google search result.

Evidently Google is working with TeleAtlas for the mapping products, and also recently bought satellite imaging company, Keyhole, which makes software enabling users to view geographic images collected from satellites and airplanes.
